OBJECTIVE
At the end of this course, students should be able to:
- Relate to legal concepts with respect to digital evidence.
- Understand legal processes and procedures.
- Apply International standards to the process of identifying, examine, preserve, prepare and present digital evidence.
- Understand the importance of cybersecurity.
- Administer cybersecurity tool(s) to an IT environment.
CONTENTS
UNIT 1 – Introduction to Cybercrimes & Cybersecurity (6 hours, USD $300) – Includes: Knowledge of the different types of cybercrimes; factors for committing cybercrimes; Technical methods to apply in preventing cybercrimes; Cybersecurity weaknesses; Understanding the principles of cybersecurity.
UNIT 2 – Introduction to Digital Evidence (6 hours, USD $300) – Includes: Explain body corporate versus individual offenses; Assess the need for proper interpretation of laws before conducting digital investigation; Compare and contrast cybercrime and computer misuse laws within the Caribbean.
UNIT 3 – Cybercrime and Computer Laws in the Caribbean (6 hours, USD $300) – Includes: Discuss international cybercrimes laws; Analyze European Union’s data protection policy; Examine the Budapest Convention and what it is about; Assess cross border commission of cybercrimes.
UNIT 4 – International Cybercrimes Laws (6 hours, USD $300) – Includes: Discuss international cybercrimes laws; Analyze European Union’s data protection policy; Examine the Budapest Convention and what it is about; Assess cross border commission of cybercrimes.
UNIT 5 – International Best Practices (6 hours, USD $300) – Includes: Discuss the issue of identifying, preserving and storing digital evidence; Discuss the ACPO guidelines for collecting digital evidence.
UNIT 6 – Case Studies (9 hours, USD $500) – Includes: Applying international best practice to specific computer crimes based on jurisdiction and offences.
UNIT 7 – Case Studies (3 hours, USD $200) – Includes: Apply all material learnt within the working environment; Have a solid background to matriculate into Level 2, IT legal Framework and Cybersecurity course of study.
